Love this idea. I recently took part in a six-week letter writing project with three groups (from all walks of life) in different counties. I had no idea who I was writing to but the responses made it worth. Some were very moving, or surprising, and often - weirdly - chimed with subjects I was going to write about the following week. Really look forward to this. Am sure you know about Nick Cave’s Red Hand Files, but if not, you might like them. Happy new year from Dublin! Sinéad

Sinead, can you share more about your six week letter writing project? It sounds so generative and delightful.

Love the idea! Do you envision it as a one-time exchange or with a few back-and-forths?

I think a one time thing, but who knows!!

What a cool idea, Catherine! Reminds me of the penpal I used to have back when I was living in Uganda… Gosh, I haven’t thought about that in ages. 🙂

How much info about the letter-writer do you plan to share? A name and letter contents? Only contents? Should letter-writers specify this?

Up to the letter writer! If necessary, and with permission, I may publish only part of the letter if it’s longer or if someone doesn’t want all of it to be shared, just note that.

That said, I’ve already gotten more than I was expecting (which is cool!) so I probably won’t get to all of them. But yeah, the idea is to publish the letters together on substack.

this was the most delightful provocation... i hadn't realized how much i had craved this kind of intimate unspooling of the mind communication. bravo, and best wishes with the experiment.
