I was really glad to write about Sheila Heti’s Alphabetical Diaries for the current issue of Bookforum, our beloved books magazine who died for our sins in 2022 and later rose from the dead. Michael Miller, the editor in chief and my editor in particular on this piece, was incidentally the very first editor to ever assign me a book review, of Maggie Nelson’s Bluets in 2009 back when Time Out New York still had a books page. (Also Michael saved me from certain doom in Gowanus one night, but that’s a different story.)
