I was really glad to write about Sheila Heti’s Alphabetical Diaries for the current issue of Bookforum, our beloved books magazine who died for our sins in 2022 and later rose from the dead. Michael Miller, the editor in chief and my editor in particular on this piece, was incidentally the very first editor to ever assign me a book review, of Maggie Nelson’s Bluets in 2009 back when Time Out New York still had a books page. (Also Michael saved me from certain doom in Gowanus one night, but that’s a different story.)

Please consider subscribing to Bookforum! In fact, if you subscribe to Bookforum, reply to this email and you can have a free un-paywalled subscription here.

Also— I have events in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles next month and in April with wonderful writers like Rita Bullwinkle, Chris Kraus & Chloe Cooper-Jones. There’s more information over here if that’s of any interest.

I’ve been working on something about revision at the request of a subscriber, so I’ll send…
